Hi! I'm Jennifer.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in perinatal mental health and EMDR therapy.

Jennifer Matthes - Clinical Social Worker

I'm so happy you're here.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, and I recognize it may be helpful to know a little bit about the person sitting across from you. I have been a social worker for over a decade, practicing in a variety of settings including hospitals, Early Head Start, and community clinics. Throughout it all, the common thread has been a deep care for the people I work with. I believe therapy should meet you exactly where you are. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth.

Much of my work has focused on supporting people navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and the complex identity shifts that come with parenthood. Being a mom of three and having navigated postpartum anxiety myself, I am especially passionate about walking alongside new parents and those facing major life transitions. I also have extensive experience supporting survivors of trauma, utilizing EMDR and providing a safe and grounded space to heal.

I absolutely love what I do and consider myself fortunate to get to walk alongside my clients through the peaks and the valleys. My hope is that you leave our sessions feeling seen, supported, and empowered. I’m here to remind you that you’re doing a great job, even on the days it doesn’t feel like it. On the days that feel heavy, please know that you aren’t alone. Together, we will tailor our sessions to your goals, helping you move forward with a renewed sense of confidence, purpose, and ease.

My Approach

I believe in creating a therapeutic environment that is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. My approach draws from several evidence-based modalities, with a focus on:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for trauma processing and healing
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for practical coping strategies
  • Mindfulness approaches to connect mind and body in the present moment
  • Strengths-based perspective that honors your strengths and capabilities

My approach is always client-centered and we will work together on a plan to meet your unique needs and goals, recognizing that each person's journey is unique.

My Philosophy

I believe that therapy is most effective when it feels like a partnership. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to provide support, tools, and a safe space as you navigate your journey. I approach each session with curiosity, compassion, and a genuine desire to understand your unique experience.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, processing trauma, adjusting to parenthood, or navigating a major life transition, you deserve support that meets you where you are. I'm here to help you not just survive these challenges, but to find healing, growth, and a deeper connection to yourself.
